St John’s Track & Field

2013 - Two students from St John’s Anglican College, Trae Williams (yr 11) and Hannah Joye (yr 12) each won medals at the recently held Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney whilst representing Australia. This competition featured 1700 Junior Sportspeople from over 30 countries across a number of Olympic Sports.

Trae competed in three events, the 200m (4th place), 4x100m (5th place), and Sweedish Relay (each runner runs different length legs, Bronze Medal). Hannah competed in the High Jump and won Silver, whilst jumping the same height as the winner, but going down on count-back.

At the 2012 London Olympic Games over a quarter of the Australian Olympic Team had

come through the AYOF, with a total of 106 athletes. Between them they won a total of 19 medals – 3 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze. No doubt many young athletes from this year's festival will be lining up at Rio in a few short
years. Hannah and Trae are hoping to be part of this team.

Each of these students had an excellent representative season, with Trae breaking a 26 year old Met West record in the 100m and then going sub 11s in the 100m at States on way to winning the 100m/200m double. Hannah was Age Chanpion at TAS and medaled at Met West, although was injured for States.

The were also part of the victorious St John's team who won the Blue Division Track and Field Championships in 2012

St John’s is extremely proud of Hannah and Trae and look forward to more success by them and other members of the Track and Field Squad in 2013.
